Because of a Vitamin B12 deficiency I have added animal products to my diet. Since then I have been asked why I continue promoting raw foods if I am no longer eating a 100% raw vegan diet, and today I tell you why!!!

  2. You are brave – and your honesty is helping a lot of viewers that don’t post comments. Many of us see the importance of figuring out what works for each individual. Injections – ugh…I wouldn’t go that route either.

    Thanks for the update – would love to know what you eat in a day now that you have added some animal products. Do you still have mono-fruit meals.

  6. Natasha, I have been following you for quite awhile now and like you have suffered some pretty serious health issues. Because I have to watch my vitamin K intake I find it hard to be 100% raw vegan but I do have a very high raw vegan diet. I have experimented and think I have finally found a balance that works for me and I can’t remember the last time I felt better. No one is going to fault you for needing to adjust your diet. Do what feels right for you. Thanks for the videos and the information, you are educating and helping people make positive changes in their lives. πŸ™‚

    I was on your last 7 day raw food challenge πŸ˜€ I’m planning on sharing my testimonial with you hopefully soon. I mentioned on the forum I was getting my B12 tested, so I have the “before” or early data to compare and see if it changes on the raw vegan diet. Yesterday was my 3rd month anniversary of raw vegan πŸ˜€

    My result for B12 is 70. 70!!!! That’s a huge bummer. I have to choose supplements, injections or animal products. All equally unfavoured by me…I’ll do some research on B12 in animals because I’d rather try the natural food way first versus being dependent on meds for life :S But with regards to protein, what is the (real, not propagated by the food industry) number of grams one should consume daily?

  11. Hi Natasha,

    I think you are a very wise woman. Also, I wanted to mention something that I learned about B vitamins. If you split them up and take them separately (i.e. B-6, B-12, etc.) then you actually create a deficit in your body of all the other Bs. It’s best to get the full B-Complex as nature intended – just as you’re doing. However, if, when you’re tested, you find that you are still lacking, I recommend Shaklee’s B-Complex. I’ve been taking Shaklee Food Supplements since I was a kid (I’m now 45) with incredible results! Shaklee is different from all the rest. Their food supplements are different from regular vitamins because they don’t pull things apart. They keep things whole – as is found in nature. Plus, they don’t use things like coal tar to hold everything together – which keeps other vitamins from breaking down within the body. I’ve also given birth to 5 very healthy children and each time my midwife would comment on the how healthy the placenta was (much healthier than any others she had seen in her 25 years of midwifery practice). I took Shaklee and ate a very healthy diet and the results don’t lie. Those same children are still extremely healthy today (my oldest is 18) and rarely, if ever, get sick. So, if you’re looking into supplementation, take a look at Shaklee.

    I just realized that I should’ve probably explained something a little better in my post. For those of you who don’t know, the health of the placenta indicates the health of the baby. The healthier the placenta, the healthier the baby.

  13. So what if your eating a few animal products to help with b12.
    I don’t see any problem with that. Your still eating a mostly raw diet and those symptoms you had were pretty bad.

  15. People are not exactly the same. Otherwise we would all be like the marching people in Pink Floyd’s The wall. Out there somewhere may be another person who has the same problem that you have, and IMO you are letting them know it is okay to do what you need to do to stay healthy. After all what good would “raw” be without the “radiant health”? So keep up the good work, many thanks and i look forward to your next video.

    You are showing great courage and leadership.

    I think some people in the raw food “movement” are getting a little dogmatic. Which is very human, but not very productive. The goal is to reach optimal health. A 100% raw-vegan diet can be the way to get there for some, but a mostly-raw-with-eggs-and-meat diet can be the answer for others.

    I am like you, I need eggs and meat. I’ve experimented with eating meat and not eating meat for a decent period of time and my body is very clear about it.
    I recently discovered information about bloodtypes and their relationship to diet and that helped me to understand why my body wants to eat meat. Bloodtype O, which I have, is the most ancient bloodtype, from the time when we were hunter-gathers. It’s designed to take in nutrients that the body gets out of meat, green leafs, vegetables, roots, nuts and seeds.

    I have pondered the moral dilemma for quite a while, and my conclusion is that I have nothing to be ashamed of. In nature everybody eats everybody! and we are (a part of) the earth.
    Now, it would be perfect if animals were still living in herds in the wild, but getting sick from lack of the nutrients my body needs, will not help improve their situation.

    You could consider starting a new branch in the healthy-food-world one day, called “Real Food” or “Finding-your-Ideal-Diet” one day, but either way it’s the openness to search for the best answer for every single person individually that makes you a good health-coach.

  17. Natasha, I want to thank you for your honesty and openess to share your story. Everyone struggles with their eating plans and never find the balance that truly helps the body stay healthy. Our bodies are constantly changing and we must change with it and be open to seeking the ways that work for us individually. I to eat mostly a raw diet with very little animal products and find it works very well for me, as my body is unique to just me. Just like yours is, and it takes intuition and connection to stay tuned into this and follow thru. So good for you and keep RAWKIN it girl friend!!!
    As far as those who will speak against your journey I believe their thoughts are not balanced and in fact it may even skake the thoughts they live by. Which is always good, as it forces one to look and either atand strong in that belief or reasses it.

  18. Hi Natasha, I also would like to thank you for your inspiration. It is refreshing to meet someone so honest. I have been on the 7 Day Challenge for 5 days now and feel amazing and don’t want to stop. Is there any reason I can’t continue? I have been a vegetarian for 30 years and don’t drink, smoke or eat processed foods but the “raw food diet” is simply fantastic. I have a Blendtec and my next purchase will be a dehydrator.
