I am asked by a lot by people starting out on the raw food diet why they are lacking energy. The main reason people have problems with the raw food diet is either they aren’t eating enough or their diet isn’t balanced. Today i talk about some of the ways to ensure you are eating correctly and where to get your calories and energy from.
I am always asked to describe what I eat in a typical day. Everyone is always curious how raw fooders survive and what is the secret behind their youthful glow. Well, if you follow my blog (apart from the past 8 day where I’ve been on a juice feast/liquid diet), I usually post what I eat. So today I talk about my diet and what works for me and what doesn’t.
To get the most out of the Raw Food Diet, you need to eat plenty of greens. The best way to get greens into your diet is through salads, but your salads have to be tasty in order for you to want to come back for more. My suggestion to everyone is to know how to make a few delicious salad dressings that you can either whip up in a matter of minutes or that you can make a big batch and store it in a glass jar in your refrigerator for a week– then whenever you’re hungry, you can prepare a fabulous salad in just minutes!!! Whatever you do, please stay away from any store-bought salad dressings, they are full of many unwanted ingredients including sugar, trans-fats, msg, chemicals, preservatives, artificial flavors, fillers, etc..
So, today I share with you my absolute favorite salad. I have this salad almost every single day!!! Its easy, low in fat, and made out of pure and fresh ingredients.
The recipe is below as well!
Low-Fat Lemon Romaine Salad
1 head Romaine Lettuce (chopped)
1 cup Cauliflower (chopped in small pieces)
1 cup Sunflower Sprouts
2 celery stalks (diced)
1 cup cherry tomatoes (chopped in quarters)
1/4 red onion (thinly sliced)
1/3 red bell pepper (thinly sliced)
1/2 lemon (juice of)
1/4 avocado (cubbed)
1/16 tsp kelp powder (or more to taste) optional
pinches of celtic sea salt
—Place all ingredients in a large bowl and massage avocado into lettuce and vegetables.
To continue from yesterday’s introduction into the raw food diet and how to get started, today I answer some common questions abut the raw food diet, like where do you get your protein, are you getting sufficient vitamins and minerals, why are greens so important, and can you eat grains on a raw food diet? I always find that the more I know about the food I am eating, the happier I become!!! It makes me feel so good knowing that I am nourishing myself and doing all that I can to be in top shape. In all, knowledge is power!!!
Today is about getting back to basics! I’ve been receiving a lot of questions on how to get started on the raw food diet– so today I talk about what raw foods are, how to get started, what to do if the rest of your family isn’t eating raw with you and what is to me the #1 most important food to have in your diet and how much to eat daily.
